Eating disorder recovery during pregnancy

My dear sweet friend and fellow writer and yoga instructor, Leslie Ellinburg, has a fabulous blog that touches on many topics. This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, and as a woman in recovery over her own eating disorder, she’s using her following to promote its seriousness.  Using her website AUM in the Arts and Facebook page she’s giving the disorder the awareness needed for others to understand, and to encourage those with the disorder to reach out for help. Leslie says…

The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) dedicates a whole week to bringing awareness to a very hush-hush topic: Eating Disorders (ED). Eating disorders are more diverse and complicated than what society portrays them to be. Eating disorders are dangerous and deadly. Eating disorders, especially Anorexia, has the highest  mortality rate of any mental illness. What makes these disorders so deadly is that most individuals suffer in private and refuse to seek help.

I guest wrote a blog piece for her about eating disorders during pregnancy. I shared how yoga can help foster a healthy relationship with food and teach us self-acceptance. I shared Leslie Mullin’s story about her path of recovery throughout her pregnancies. My wish is that reading her story will inspire others to seek support to recover.
